With the Jio Electric Scooter 2025, newly launched, something else entirely has been added to this increasingly overcrowded space for electric vehicles: a whole new way out of today’s traffic jams and high-priced gas.

Affordability redefined

The most unusual thing about the Jio Electric Scooter is probably its pricing. At Rs 49,999 (about $1,120) for a basic model, it is the cheapest of its peers. But the real innovation is the service-related business model it carries along with itself.

Buyers can subscribe to the JioMobility service for a monthly fee of Rs 999. This includes unlimited data access for the scooter’s smart features, free use of the charging network, regular maintenance and comprehensive insurance. The subscription also provides for battery upgrades as technologies improve — the scooter will stay on its feet.

“We take the telecoms approach to mobility,” says Mr. Navi Prakash, Head of Jio Mobility Services. “Just as we revolutionized data pricing in telecoms, we’re now doing it in electric mobility. The front-end cost is only one piece–where customers will see real savings unmatched before lie in the total cost and operating costs.”

Indeed, it is estimated that the Jio Electric could save commuters clean Rs 25,000 per year once only for fuel, that doesn’t think about repair costs.

Sustainability Beyond Emissions

While electric vehicles inherently provide environmental benefits by eliminating pollution from tailpipe emissions, Jio takes a more comprehensive approach to sustainability. The scooter’s frame is made of recycled aluminum, which lowers its carbon footprint during manufacture. The seats are stuffed with reclaimed ocean plastic, and our plants in Gujarat run on an almost entirely renewable energy supply.

“We have committed to track the entire lifecycle carbon impact of each scooter, and publish those results,” explains Sunita Rao, Sustainability Director. “This means manufacturing, usage assuming our grid mix, and what happens when the vehicle is no longer in use. Our goal is to show complete transparency and continual improvements.”

Most impressively, from the very first day Jio has run a battery recycling program to ensure those early batteries get responsible disposal.

Smart Safety Features

India still has a particularly large problem with road safety, although improving. The Jio Electric Scooter includes several features to help tackle this issue. Automatic Emergency Braking is able to detect obstacles ahead and apply the brakes when necessary. A blind spot detection system alerts riders to vehicles in areas that are difficult for them to see, while our adaptive headlight system improves visibility when taking turns.

The scooter also has a fall detection system which will inform emergency contacts of your location if an accident is detected. With built-in dashcam, it constantly records your journey, providing valuable evidence in case of incidents.

User Experience Reimagined

Ownership of the Jio Electric Scooter involves a digital-first experience. The entire purchase can be made online, with delivery to your home being offered in most major cities. The accompanying Jio Mobility app acts as a refrigerator front for such tasks as battery status and when maintenance is due.

“‘We’ve removed traditional pain points in vehicle ownership,’ explains Vikram Mehta, Director of User Experience. ‘Service queueing and maintenance schedules are no longer a problem. Everything is managed actively with an app; predictive maintenance alerts are generated based on usage patterns that reflect your daily life.”

The scooter learns from the rider, optimising battery performance for your normal routes and indicating recharging points on your calendar or planned trips.

Market Impact and Future Roadmap

Industry analysts predict that the launch of the Jio Electric Scooter could strongly boost adoption of electric two-wheelers in India. At present, electric scooters account for only 5% of the two-wheeler market. After the Jio comes out, this figure may rise threefold in 18 months.

The company has announced that future models will include a higher specification version, and another more affordable variant with a smaller battery – but still eligible for the same subscription packages and charging network.
